Jewels is a very important item in Path of Exile, and the correct use of jewel can add a lot of damage and defense to your character. Ourpoe will show players how to choose jewels and where to place them in detail to help player complete their own builds

What is PoE Jewels?

Jewels are items that can be placed into jewel sockets in the passive skill tree, and can be removed or replaced at no cost. They grant certain buffs and abilities. 

How can get PoE Jewels?

1. Obtained through the quest, such as Through Sacred Ground in Chapter 2, you need to go to the Crypt (Crossroads which lie to the east of the Forest Encampment.) to get the gold hand. After the quest is completed, you will get a jewel (three choices, each difficulty reward is different).

2. Drop by monsters, one is a unique jewel, one is a normal jewel, and the normal jewel is generally a magic or rare.

Craft Guide

Magic Jewels

Magic jewels has up to two mods. You can use the Orb of Alteration to change the mods. You can add an new modifier to the jewel with only one mod by Orb of Augmentation. Magic jewels can also be upgraded from normal jewels with Orb of Transmutation.

Rare Jewels

Rare jewels with up to four mods that can be converted from normal jewels using Orb of Alchemy, or from magic jewels using Regal Orb.

If the rare jewels wants to reset the mods, first you can use Orb of Scouring to removes all modifiers, and then use the Orb of Transmutation, Orb of Augmentation, Orb of Alteration, and the Regal Orb (recommended this).

Second, use Orb of Scouring to removes all modifiers, then use the Orb of Alchemy to become a rare jewel (if you want to save time, you can follow this, but it is a waste of currency, and it is not easy to control).

The third is to use Chaos Orb to change the attributes of rare items. This will save more time than second method but need more currency.

Jewels Mods

Cobalt Jewel

Cobalt jewel are int-type jewels, so the types of attacks that appear in jewels mods are mostly spells, and the defensive types only have Energy Shield related content.

Crimson Jewel

Crimson Jewel are str-type jewels, so the types of attacks that appear in jewels mods are mostly melee weapons (mace, axes, swords, and sceptre). The type of defense only increases the armor.

Viridian Jewel

Viridian Jewel are dex-type jewels, so the types of attacks that appear in jewels mods are mostly melee weapons (claws, daggers, swords, axes) and bow weapon attack types, and defense types only have an increase in dodge.

Unique Jewels

Intuitive Leap

Intuitive Leap, Viridian Jewel (small), put the jewel placed in the red jack, in the area can activate a power charge and an endurance charge, saving a few skill points.

Eldritch Knowledge

Eldritch Knowledge, Cobalt Jewel (medium), the unique jewel often used by chaos damage skills, get a lot of chaos damage through the wisdom points in the range.

Static Electricity

Static Electricity, Viridian Jewel (large) can get a lot of cheap lightning damage, put it in area that have a lot of dex points.

Lioneye's Fall

Lioneye's Fall, Viridian Jewel (medium), used for classes not ranger or assassin. Those players do not need to waste a lot of skill points to the Ranger area to activate the bow skills, but can directly get more bow damage bonus.

How to choose Jewels

Element Damage

1. Critical Strike:

Prefer Life: Generally speaking, there must be a maximum percentage of life. It is much more difficult to increase the maximum value of life than to increase the value of the shield. The more life mods, the better. Other mods are selected. The preferred critical damage, critical strike chance, then element damage, melee damage or projectile, accuracy, attack speed, and finally if yor have no enough resistance can find some resistance.

Prefer Energy Shield: There are more choices of energy shield. If the equipment is normal and there are not enough energy shield, you must choose cobalt jewels, because only cobalt jewels have energy shield mods, but cobalt blue jewels have a lot of spell damage mods. With Crown of Eyes (Increases and Reductions to Spell Damage also apply to Attacks)

2. Elemental Overload:

Prefer Life: Same Element Damage

Prefer Energy Shield: Same Element Damage

But we choose attack speed mods instead of critical damage and critical strike chance

Physical Damage

In general, prefer life is more popular. If the Resolute Technique point is activated, ignore hit and crit mods, the main choice is attack speed and physical damage.  If you prefer critical damage, then the crit mods will be the first choice. If you don't have Lycosidae, you should also consider the hit mods. At least you are supposed have more than 90% hit. Attack speed and physical damage is your second choice.

Physical Damage converted to Elemental Damage

Critical damage mods is your first choice.

Elemental Spell

Regardless of whether you choose life or energy shield, you must have defence mods, that is, give priority to life or energy shield. Usually, The good choice for spells is cobalt jewel. If you prefer fire, then the recommendation is to choose the fire damage first, and then the all damage. 

If you prefer hit damage, in the case of equal value, elemental damage = spell damage = project damage = area damage

If you like Inquisitor and Pathfinder, crit mods are still a priority. But do not need to consider crit mods if you like other classes and prefer elemental overload

Physical Spell

First, the defence mods is preferred, and the preferred physical damage and spell damage are recommended, and area damage or project damage.

Elemental Ailments

Useful mods of the attack: chaos damage or fire damage, global damage, DoT, attack speed, hit, if you activate perfect agony, critical damage and critical strike chance are also useful mod.
