About Regal Orb

Effect: a currency item that can be used to upgrade a piece of magic equipment to rare. (The current modifiers are all retained and one new random affix is added.)
Obtaining
1. Obtained from slain enemies or found in an Artisan's Strongbox. ( uncommon currency items)

Spending
The primary way to spend Regal Orbs is to consume them to upgrade a magic item into a rare item, adding one random affix. Often, using a Regal Orb is only one step in a long item crafting process that may include using Exalted Orbs, Eternal Orbs, and Forsaken master crafting benches. If used on a magic item with only one affix, a Regal Orb will create a rare item with only two affixes, which otherwise cannot exist. It is possible to add a prefix to an item only with a suffix, creating a rare item with properties also a magic item could have. This can be useful when planning to use Elreon's Can have multiple crafted mods meta-crafting mod.
Other than for crafting powerful rare gear, Regal Orbs may also be used to upgrade maps in order to increase item quantity bonuses. They may also be used to upgrade strongboxes, especially Arcanist's Strongboxes, since that strongbox type can potentially drop several uncommon or rare orbs, yielding a net positive return for the player.
Lastly, Regal Orbs can be used to purchase certain skill gems from vendors.
